Student of the month

Dale Irving is this month's student of the month. Dale got a massive 99% in his first RGT guitar examination.

Riff of the month

This month we will be looking at Cream's classic track Sunshine Of Your Love.

Student of the month

Georgina Lamb is this month's student of the month. Over the past few months Georgina has started to take her guitar playing really seriously and she is now starting to see real results.

Riff of the month

This month we will be looking at the Guns N' Roses classic Sweet Child O'' Mine

Whets going on

Guitar school's students managed to raise £50 for Deeside community hospital. A big thank you to everyone who took part in guitar school's  Christmas raffle. The winners were Mark Ward winning the guitar school goodie bag, Kelvin Davies winning the bottle of whiskey, Joe Powel winning a free lesson at guitar school and Seren Whitley winning the guitar hero 3 game for the ps2. A letter of thanks has now been received from the hospital and is up on the notice board for you all to see.

 

February 2008

Student of the month

Seren Whitley is this month's student of the month. Seren has been working hard putting the final touches to her exam preparation this month.

Riff of the month

This month we will be looking at The White Stripes track Seven Nation Army

What's going on

Guitar School awards will be given out at the end of this month! Markeus Woodworth is this years Guitarist of the year! Gareth Roberts will pick up Newcomer Of The Year whilst Jack Weigh will pick up the Most Improved Player award. Well done to all three of you, the decision was not made lightly this year with so many other students doing so well.

A quarterly news letter is in the pipe line,  informing you on what's going on at Guitar School! If you would like to receive this news letter please give me your email address's. The first news letter will be sent out around the end of march.

Work has started on Guitar School's first book! It will be entitled Guitar School's Rock Manual and will feature many of the greatest riffs of all time. Also the video lesson pilot is due to be recorded over the next few months, so that should be up on the website as soon as possible.

 

March 2008

Student of the month

Seren Whitley is again Guitar School's student of the month! Seren won the eisteddfod she took part in her school with her guitar performance! also this month she is performing in Joseph in Rhyl and Manchester. I believe Seren is turning into one of guitar schools most promising young talents! well done.

Riff of the month

This month we will be looking at the 80's classic riff Back In Black by AC/DC. One of my personal favourites!

Bass line of the month

This month's Bass line (a new feature this month) will be Little Green Bag by the 70's outfit The George Baker Selection. More recently it was a track used on the Quentin Tarantino cult film Reservoir Dogs. 

What's going on

At the end of this month students who have given me their email addresses will receive Guitar School's first news letter! Keeping them informed on what's going on, and maybe even some tuition material will be posted to them via email!

Guitar School has now branched out into vocal tuition. Emma Friend becomes the first vocal student at guitar school and will be sitting the Rock School vocal syllabus. To hear a track with Emma singing click this link www.myspace.com/guitarschool22

And finally this month I have started a new project in association with Flintshire county council called Flintshire Sounds! It’s a music therapy program to support individuals with varying degrees of dementia and physical disability. I did the first session on Thursday the 13th at Buckley and another the same afternoon in shotton and I have to say it was immensely satisfying and rewarding. I’m really looking forward to working with Flintshire county council and this project in the future.

 

April 2008

Student of the month

Chris Musgrave is this month's student of the month. Chris has put in a lot of hard work in preparation for his grade 2 examination which he will sit at the end of this month. Chris will be yet another guitarist to make the intermediate level at guitar school.

Riff of the month

A slight change for you all this month, having being inspired by St Patricks day last month I've transcribed an acoustic arrangement of Londonderry Air or as you may all know it Danny Boy. I hope you enjoy it.

Bass line of the month

This month we will be looking at a track called cannonball by the breeders.

What's going on

This month I will be starting work on the production of Guitar School's third backing track's cd, I am planning a much more heavier sound this time round.

May 2008

Student of the month

Dale Irving is this month's student of the month. Dale achieved a massive 98% in his grade 1 RGT guitar examination!

Riff of the month

This month we will be looking at the Led Zeppelin classic Heartbreaker.

Bass line of the month

This month guitar school students will be going back to the 60's with the classic bass line from the beatles song Taxman.

What's going on

Well done to all students that sat their RGT guitar examinations last month. Dale Irving, Seren Whitley, Jack weigh, Gareth Roberts, Chris Musgrave and Elliott Sullivan all achieved distinctions and Mike Dillon who achieved a merit. Thank you all for working so hard and putting in the practice that's required to pass these examinations at such a high standard.

In talks with Steve Brown! I am currently in talks with producer Steve Brown. For those of you who don't know him or his work, he started his career with sir Elton John and went on to produce The Manic Street Preachers album Generation Terrorist, he also produced 80's rock band The Cult's Love album to name but a few. He has produced two of my favourite track's of all time, Motorcycle emptiness by the manics and She sells sanctuary by the cult. I feel very honoured that he is even considering working with me.

Also this month I will be starting to tab out the awesome Dire Straits song Sultans of swing this month. Any students with a love for Dire Straits, let me know if you are interested in learning the track.

 

June 2008

Student of the month

Katie Jones is this month's student of the month. Katie has put in a lot of practice in over the past month and has made big progress in her playing.

Riff of the month

This month we will be working on the Metallica 90's hit Enter sandman.

Bass line of the month

Also this month guitar school's bass students will also be working on Enter sandman by Metallica.

What's going on

Guitar School's students will be going to do there examinations at the end of June so good luck to all of you!
