Guitar School's awards are out this month! A award to recognise students achievements over the past year. Robert Woods has been awarded Guitarist Of The Year. Robert is currently about to take his grade 7 and start his grade 8. The Most Improved Player award goes to Joshua Shaw and the Newcomer Of The Year award this time will be awarded to Thomas Hudson. Well done to you all.

This month i'm starting to put together my first book! entitled Anybody can play guitar... !'m planning on producing simplified arrangements of some popular songs for the younger generation to help them learn guitar. Please give me your thoughts on songs, ideas etc.

Catfish & the Bottlemem on tour! A must see band! The last gig of the tour will be held at Telfords warehouse, Chester on April 9th. Get yourselves down there! it'll be a cracker.

What's going on

Guitar School becomes the official Sponsor of The White Bear football club. I am proud to be a part of the White Bear FC set up and hope the money will come in handy for the lads and the club.

Christmas charity raffle is now underway with some great prises to be won! Tickets are £1 per strip available now up until the week before Christmas. All proceeds will be going to Deeside Community Hospital Day Care Centre.

Guitar School's 2010/2011 are here! Jack Weigh picked up Guitarist of The Year for the second year running, Currently on Grade 5 Bass Jack has done so well in the three years he has been here and now his band Ocean City have just recorded their first two tracks at a professional studio! Joshua Shaw picked up Best Newcomer award and Elliott Sullivan Most Improved Player, well done to you all, you make me so proud.

It's very rare these day's that I listen to a band like I used to years ago, you know the stuff that makes you listen to a track over and over.............Enter Catfish and The Bottlemen. I've caught this band Live a few times and have been left really impressed by their live presence and kicking guitar tunes. Their new material however is something else! It's hard to for me to pick my favourite track, it really is but I'm loving Collide at the moment. Ocean City are a 5 piece Post Hardcore/Rock Band from North Wales. They have been together since October 2009. Already having played 4 gigs, and gone... through to the Pentre BOTB semi-finals.

Influences such as A Day To Remember, Alexisonfire, Saosin, Lostprophets and We Are The Ocean by their own admition can clearly be heard in their music.

Jack Weigh has been having lessons at Guitar School for the last 3 years, now aged just 17 is one of the most promising prospects here. In that time has sat 5 RGT bass examinations achieving Distinctions in 4 of them, he has also won Guitar School's Most Improved Player award and Guitarist of The Year twice! Well done Jack!

Riff Of The Month competition! This month Guitar School is hosting it's first competition. All students are invited to write their own guitar riff, song, chord progression, instrumental or bass line. The winner will have their track professionally produced and packaged at Guitar School with the opportunity to upload and sell their track on iTunes! Student of the month

Elliott Sullivan is student of the month for the 3rd time in 2009! Elliot has really shown great potential this year and is making great progress through his LCM examination syllabus.

Riff of the month

This month we will be looking at something a little different at guitar school. I Like The Way You Move by The Bodyrockers! Although this is a dance band this track contained a powerful and distinctive guitar riff. Released in 2005 and reaching #3 in the UK singles chart, I believe this to be one of the best riffs of the modern era.

Bass line of the month

Guitar School's Bass students will be working on The Bodyrockers track I LIke The Way You Move.

What's going on

Guitar School awards are now ready to be handed out to students. Jack Weigh is this years Guitarist Of The Year. Jack has been at Guitar School for around two years now. In that time he has managed to achieve 3 distinctions in his RGT Bass guitar examinations!

Katie Jones picked up Most Improved Player and Louis Davies received Newcomer Of The Year award. A big well done to all of you.

This month we will be looking at ZZ Top's classic track La Grange, check out guitar school TV for a video tutorial!. The band had a series of hits in the 1980's and late 90's but this track was not released.

Bass line of the month

Guitar School's Bass students will also be working on the ZZ Top classic.

What's going on

This month I will be preparing the guitar school awards!! As like last year there will be three awards given out, Guitarist Of The Year, Newcomer Of The Year and Most Improved Player award. Awards will be handed out to students in March.

Student of the month

Andrew Dillon is guitar school's student of the month. Andrew is well on his way with his grade one syllabus and is looking to take the examination this summer.

Riff of the month

This month we will be looking at Boston's 1977 hit More than a feeling. This track reached #22 in the UK.

Bass line of the month

Guitar School's Bass students will also be working on Boston's More than a feeling.

What's going on

Results are now in for the winter RGT examinations. Out of the 6 students that undertook their guitar examinations, 5 achieved a distinction and 1 a merit!

I'm extremely proud of you all for the hard work and dedication you've shown throughout 2008. Keep up the good work in 2009. 6 of guitar school's students have now made the step up to intermediate level! In total in 2008 guitar school's students achieved 11 distinctions and 3 merits!

Thank you for all taking part in this years charity Christmas raffle. Between you all we managed to raise £50 for Deeside community hospital's day care centre.

Katie Jones is again Guitar School's student of the month. Katie achieved the highest mark (96%) out of all students attending their RGT guitar examinations.

Student of the month

This month we will be looking at the Michael Jackson track Beat It! Eddie Van Halen did the original guitar work on this classic 80's track from the album Thriller. Thriller is still the biggest selling album of all time.

Bass line of the month

Guitar School's Bass students will also be working on Beat It.

Student of the month

Louis Davies is this months student of the month. After coming to Guitar School for just 5 weeks, he is well on his way to sitting his first RGT guitar examination in the spring of 2009

Riff of the month

This month we will be looking at Jailbreak by Irish rockers Thin Lizzy. A track that reached only #31 in the UK chart in 1976.

Bass line of the month

This month Guitar School's bass students will be looking at KT Tunstall's Suddenly I See

Student of the month

Jack Weigh is this month student of the month. Jack has been working hard in preparation for his Grade 2 bass guitar examination due to be taken in November/December. Jack will become Guitar School's first Intermediate bass guitar student. Good luck Jack.

Riff of the month

This month we will be looking at Aerosmith's Walk This Way. A track originally done by them in the 1970's but made much more popular in the 1990's when they teamed up with a rap outfit called Run DMC. View it now on Guitar School TV!

Bass line of the month

This month we will be looking at a walking blues bass line.

What's going on

I am starting to put things together for this years Christmas raffle! all proceeds will again be donated to Deeside Community Hospital. All students are welcome to start buying raffle tickets from the start of October. Please dig deep everyone and put a little something back into your local community. 1st prize Kustom 20 watt amplifier and 2nd prize this year will be a Christmas hamper!

Markeus Woodworth is this month's student of the month. Markeus achieved a merit in his Grade 3 guitar examination, narrowly missing another distinction by one point. Well done Markeus.

This month I will be going back into the studio to work on a brand new track of mine entitled "So You Smile" it will be put up on the my music page as soon as it's finished.

Dale Irving is this month's student of the month. Dale achieved a massive 98% in his grade 1 RGT guitar examination!

Riff of the month

This month we will be looking at the Led Zeppelin classic Heartbreaker.

Bass line of the month

This month guitar school students will be going back to the 60's with the classic bass line from the beatles song Taxman.

What's going on

Well done to all students that sat their RGT guitar examinations last month. Dale Irving, Seren Whitley, Jack weigh, Gareth Roberts, Chris Musgrave and Elliott Sullivan all achieved distinctions and Mike Dillon who achieved a merit. Thank you all for working so hard and putting in the practice that's required to pass these examinations at such a high standard.

In talks with Steve Brown! I am currently in talks with producer Steve Brown. For those of you who don't know him or his work, he started his career with sir Elton John and went on to produce The Manic Street Preachers album Generation Terrorist, he also produced 80's rock band The Cult's Love album to name but a few. He has produced two of my favourite track's of all time, Motorcycle emptiness by the manics and She sells sanctuary by the cult. I feel very honoured that he is even considering working with me.

Also this month I will be starting to tab out the awesome Dire Straits song Sultans of swing this month. Any students with a love for Dire Straits, let me know if you are interested in learning the track.

April 2008

Student of the month

Chris Musgrave is this month's student of the month. Chris has put in a lot of hard work in preparation for his grade 2 examination which he will sit at the end of this month. Chris will be yet another guitarist to make the intermediate level at guitar school.

Riff of the month

A slight change for you all this month, having being inspired by St Patricks day last month I've transcribed an acoustic arrangement of Londonderry Air or as you may all know it Danny Boy. I hope you enjoy it.

Bass line of the month

This month we will be looking at a track called cannonball by the breeders.

What's going on

This month I will be starting work on the production of Guitar School's third backing track's cd, I am planning a much more heavier sound this time round.

Student of the month

Seren Whitley is again Guitar School's student of the month! Seren won the eisteddfod she took part in her school with her guitar performance! also this month she is performing in Joseph in Rhyl and Manchester. I believe Seren is turning into one of guitar schools most promising young talents! well done.

Riff of the month

This month we will be looking at the 80's classic riff Back In Black by AC/DC. One of my personal favourites!

Bass line of the month

This month's Bass line (a new feature this month) will be Little Green Bag by the 70's outfit The George Baker Selection. More recently it was a track used on the Quentin Tarantino cult film Reservoir Dogs.

What's going on

At the end of this month students who have given me their email addresses will receive Guitar School's first news letter! Keeping them informed on what's going on, and maybe even some tuition material will be posted to them via email!

Guitar School has now branched out into vocal tuition. Emma Friend becomes the first vocal student at guitar school and will be sitting the Rock School vocal syllabus. To hear a track with Emma singing click this link www.myspace.com/guitarschool22

And finally this month I have started a new project in association with Flintshire county council called Flintshire Sounds! It’s a music therapy program to support individuals with varying degrees of dementia and physical disability. I did the first session on Thursday the 13^th at Buckley and another the same afternoon in shotton and I have to say it was immensely satisfying and rewarding. I’m really looking forward to working with Flintshire county council and this project in the future.

What's going on

Guitar School awards will be given out at the end of this month! Markeus Woodworth is this years Guitarist of the year! Gareth Roberts will pick up Newcomer Of The Year whilst Jack Weigh will pick up the Most Improved Player award. Well done to all three of you, the decision was not made lightly this year with so many other students doing so well.

A quarterly news letter is in the pipe line, informing you on what's going on at Guitar School! If you would like to receive this news letter please give me your email address's. The first news letter will be sent out around the end of march.

Work has started on Guitar School's first book! It will be entitled Guitar School's Rock Manual and will feature many of the greatest riffs of all time. Also the video lesson pilot is due to be recorded over the next few months, so that should be up on the website as soon as possible.

Whets going on

Guitar school's students managed to raise £50 for Deeside community hospital. A big thank you to everyone who took part in guitar school's Christmas raffle. The winners were Mark Ward winning the guitar school goodie bag, Kelvin Davies winning the bottle of whiskey, Joe Powel winning a free lesson at guitar school and Seren Whitley winning the guitar hero 3 game for the ps2. A letter of thanks has now been received from the hospital and is up on the notice board for you all to see.
