MEET MARK

Hi, I’m Mark - TEACHER AND FOUNDER OF ‘GUITAR SCHOOL’.

I have always been passionate about music. From a child, I can remember being surrounded by it. My mother loved music and played the organ every Sunday morning, my alarm call! I also had an uncle who played Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen records, so I was introduced to their music from an early age. I too loved music, and as a child I’d sing at every opportunity I started playing guitar at the age of 7 but it was in my teenage years that I really began to take guitar playing seriously. As soon as I heard Sweet Child O’ Mine by Guns N’ Roses, I was hooked. From that point, I played everyday. I’d play for hours and hours and practice was never a chore. In my 20’s, I began to play piano, and I have since added the ukulele and drums to my playing skills over the years.

In 2001, I began to study under the London College of Music and it was in 2006 that I founded Guitar School, with a clear vision to teach and inspire as many people as I could to learn to play music. Since then I have taught thousands of people to play, many of whom have gone on to have a professional career in music. In 2012, I was awarded the Excellence Flintshire Award for my contributions to music therapy within Flintshire. In 2018, I was honoured to be endorsed by Blackstar Amplification and G7th Capo Company. Another huge career highlight was teaching music at The Good Life Experience festival for Cerys Matthews, music producer Steve Abbott and entrepreneurs Charles and Caroline Gladstone. I have also collaborated with many musicians over the years on various projects. Currently I’m working with blues guitarist Aynsley Lister.

I teach the majority of lessons from my home studio in Flintshire and also my Chester studio. However, as technology has advanced I am now able to offer my teaching services around the world. Using Skype, Zoom and FaceTime, I have been able to reach out to students in London, France and Greece. Wherever you are, I’d love to help and inspire you throughout your musical journey!
